Senior AI/ML Engineer – Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) Computer Vision | C++ | CUDA | Deep Learning
Employment: Permanent, full-time (contract opportunities may also be available)
About the Company An innovative AI and Machine Learning company developing advanced technologies for defence, security and other high-performance applications. The team specialises in computer vision, perception and autonomy, combining deep learning with neuroscience-inspired AI to develop efficient, robust and high-performance systems.
Its technology supports both large-scale image processing and deployment on edge platforms, with a focus on translating advanced research into practical AI applications.
The Role We're looking for experienced AI/ML Engineers and Data Scientists with hands-on experience developing Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) to join a growing engineering team.
You'll contribute to the development of an SNN engine designed for practical engineering applications, turning research outputs into high-quality, production-ready software.
This role combines advanced AI research with hands-on software development. You'll contribute to core technology development, system design and the delivery of computer vision and machine learning products.
Strong C++ development skills and knowledge of CUDA are essential, with Python and PyTorch also beneficial.
Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Spiking Neural Network (SNN) architectures for computer vision and image analysis applications.
  • Translate research outputs into practical, high-quality software solutions.
  • Contribute to the design and development of core AI/ML technologies.
  • Work with CNNs and Transformer-based architectures where required.
  • Develop tools and processes for generating synthetic training images from 3D virtual models.
  • Support the preparation and curation of real-world and synthetic imagery for model training and testing.
  • Contribute to machine vision, image analysis and other AI/ML product development.
  • Collaborate with researchers, software engineers and wider technical teams.
  • Produce maintainable, high-quality code using best practices, version control and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Contribute to technical planning, project delivery and the development of new AI capabilities.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Hands-on experience developing Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs).
  • Strong C++ software development skills.
  • Knowledge of CUDA and GPU-based computing.
  • Understanding of computer vision, machine vision or image analysis.
  • Experience translating technical research into working software.
  • Strong software engineering practices, including version control, testing and CI/CD.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with researchers and software engineers.

Desirable Experience

  • Python and PyTorch.
  • CNNs, Vision Transformers and other deep learning architectures.
  • Synthetic data generation using 3D models or simulation environments.
  • Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) imagery.
  • Computer vision model training, validation and testing pipelines.
  • Commercial software development and production AI systems.
  • Postgraduate or postdoctoral research involving SNNs.
  • Experience working on defence, government or security-sector programmes.

Education An MSc or PhD in Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics or a related discipline is desirable, particularly with a specialisation in Spiking Neural Networks for computer vision.
Equivalent commercial experience developing advanced AI systems will also be considered.
Security Requirements Candidates must be eligible to obtain UK security clearance.
The ability to achieve BPSS clearance is required, with SC clearance or higher desirable .
Why Join?

  • Work on cutting-edge Spiking Neural Network technology.
  • Bridge the gap between advanced research and practical AI engineering.
  • Contribute to the development of core computer vision and machine learning products.
  • Collaborate with researchers and experienced software engineers.
  • Influence technical design and the development of new AI capabilities.
