Job Title:
Vice President of Engineering
Salary Range: £120,000–£140,000 + Benefits
Location: UK, remote-first
Our client is a high-growth, international subscription and commerce business entering an important new phase of expansion. With a well-established core platform and ambitious plans across new markets, operational capability, and data-led customer experiences, this is an opportunity to take ownership of how engineering delivery evolves at scale. You will join an established, well-backed organisation that values thoughtful decision-making, practical delivery, and modern ways of building software.
The Vice President of Engineering will lead engineering delivery across roadmap execution, operational health, and cross-functional coordination. This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone who can turn commercial priorities into clear, achievable engineering plans while helping shape the future direction of a complex platform.
Role Highlights
The Vice President of Engineering will:
• Own delivery across engineering roadmaps, dependencies, milestones, and release planning
• Translate product and commercial priorities into clear, realistic engineering plans
• Build meaningful delivery, quality, incident, and operational health metrics
• Coordinate the evaluation and sequencing of future platform evolution
• Act as a senior deputy to the CTO, with a defined leadership progression path
You Will Need
The role requires:
• Proven engineering leadership experience within a scaling digital, subscription, or commerce business
• Strong delivery management skills across distributed engineering teams and complex priorities
• A practical understanding of modern software architecture, platforms, and operational resilience
• Hands-on experience adopting AI-assisted and agentic development practices
• The judgement to work through ambiguity, challenge constructively, and maintain delivery momentum
Why You’ll Love It
Our client offers:
• A defined route towards broader technology leadership and CTO succession
• Remote-friendly working with a distributed engineering team
• The chance to influence a major platform’s next stage of evolution
• A collaborative engineering culture built on rigorous thinking and shared ownership
• Exposure to international growth, data, supply chain, and product transformation initiatives
This Vice President of Engineering role is not a conventional people-management or principal engineering position. You will be the person who creates clarity between strategy and execution: spotting delivery friction early, making trade-offs visible, and ensuring the engineering function can deliver sustainably as the business grows. You will also help the organisation build AI-native engineering practices that are useful, well-governed, and grounded in real delivery outcomes.
