About the Client & Opportunity

Our client is a fast-scaling SaaS provider whose platform underpins safeguarding and health administration across thousands of UK institutions. Having established a strong operational platform, the business is now at the inflection point of scaling its data capabilities from the ground up.

As a founding hire in this function, you will take full ownership of bringing data products to life—from early inception to customer delivery. You will design the cloud data foundation, build robust ingestion pipelines, ensure sensitive data is fully anonymised and regulated, and develop lightweight, full-stack tools or dashboards that deliver immediate value to customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analytics Platform & Ingestion: Stand up and own a scalable cloud data warehouse or data lake (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake, or S3-based). Build incremental/batch pipelines to aggregate operational datasets.
  • Data Transformation & Dashboards: Create dbt-style models and semantic layers to power customer-facing dashboards, reporting tools (e.g., Power BI), and in-app analytics.
  • Full-Stack Prototyping: Build lightweight, end-to-end prototypes and internal/external tools (using Python, TypeScript/Node, or preferred frameworks) to get data products in front of users quickly.
  • Governance & Sensitive Data: Embed privacy-by-design, handling PII, anonymisation, and data residency in regulated environments.
  • Pragmatic Tooling: Select the "right tool for the job" to solve business problems and directly improve customer experiences.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Proven Track Record in Data Products: Experience scaling data capabilities in similar fast-growing environments or larger functions—building pipelines and taking data features from inception to delivery.
  • Customer Dashboard & Value Focus: Practical experience developing or feeding customer-facing dashboards/reports and an understanding of how data adds real commercial value.
  • Sensitive Data & Anonymisation: Strong understanding of regulatory needs, privacy-by-design, PII handling, and data anonymisation.
  • Data Engineering Core: Strong SQL, dimensional data modelling, data lake/warehouse architecture, and ELT transformation frameworks (e.g., dbt).
  • Pragmatic Full-Stack Capability: Proficient with Python for data engineering alongside hands-on full-stack skills (TypeScript/Node or similar modern frameworks) to build working prototypes end-to-end.
Desirable Skills (Nice-to-Have)
  • Background in EdTech, HealthTech, or highly regulated sensitive-data sectors.
  • Hands-on experience with MongoDB, streaming ingestion, or CDC platforms.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/CDK) and automated CI testing frameworks.
  • Familiarity with modern AI tooling to accelerate prototyping cycles.
Key Benefits
  • Competitive salary (~£75,000).
  • 100% remote working setup within the UK.
  • High-autonomy role with founding-level influence over overall data architecture.
  • Modern tech stack and flexible, right-tool-for-the-job ethos.
  • Generous holiday allowance, pension contribution, and professional development support.
